Well,  I can imagine that you found difficulties using DXL for browser based form creation with a Domino back-end. I don't believe IBM had this sort of development in mind when providing DXL. Actually I'm not sure what IBM had in mind at all as DXL is hardly good for anything, but that is a different story.

Coming to Flex, I haven't done yet anything as complex as a form designer. So far my focus was on making Flex talking to a Domino back-end in a simple manner.

Would you mind sharing with me (online meeting) what you have done so far? I would like to get a better understanding what you are doing and what you want to achieve after all. If your project is combining Flex and Domino it might be interesting to me from a contributing point of view.
